Star of David
The first quilt I entered in a competition, it won the Championship at Quilts UK in 1994, 6 years after I started quilting.
I made this for my husband David. I love the Mariners Compass block, and when I saw a grainy photocopy of the layout on the front cover of the Region 7 Quilters Guild newsletter I thought that would be interesting to make. I knew nothing of foundation piecing, and pieced most of the compasses by hand.
I discovered that the design came from the Great Pavement in Westminster Abbey, a 13th Century masterpiece. Piecing took 18 months and hand quilting took a further 18 months and helped me through a serious illness.
